Tipsy Lemonade Iced Tea
Combining iced tea and lemonade is a tried and true American tradition. In the non-alcoholic version, you simply pour 3 parts unsweetend tea over one part lemonade. Commonly referred to as an "Arnold Palmer," the drink was popularized on the golf courses of California when Mr. Palmer would order his signature drink and onlookers would say, "I'll have that Arnold Palmer drink."
This recipe takes that concept and adds vodka to the concoction, which - funnily enough - is called a John Daly, named after the hard drinking, chain-smoking, blonde mullet-sporting professional golfer who rose to fame in the 90s for his non-country club attitude. The Tipsy Lemonade Iced Tea is a perfect cocktail for sunny afternoons on the patio or to be served at luncheon gatherings on the veranda.
Because it takes some advance preparation, we recommend you do the infusion about 2 hours before you plan to serve drinks.
Making the Tea
Ingredients and supplies you'll need:
- 6 ounces Hot Water
- 4 Tea Bags (Taylor’s English Breakfast or Yorkshire Red)
- 1/4 -1/2 cup Honey or your favorite natural sweetener (more/less to taste)
For larger batches, you'll want to increase the amounts above accordingly. Once you have everything you need, by bringing the water to a steep and add your tea bags. After 5 - 10 minutes, remove the tea bags and sweeten it with the honey. Once you've got it to a good taste, you can put the tea away in the refrigerator to chill for a couple of hours. For this cocktail, make you sure add enough sweetener to cut the vodka flavor. If you typically like your sweet tea a little on the milder side, go a little bit past your comfort zone. ;)
How to Make the Tipsy Lemonade Iced Tea
With the sweetened tea ready to go, you'll go about making the Tipsy Lemonade Iced Tea by simply following the recipe below:
Ingredients you'll need:
- Sweet tea mixture
- 1/4 cup Fever-Tree Sparkling Lemon, Bitter Lemon, or unsweetened lemonade (more/less to taste)
- 12 ounces Le Citron Vodka or Plain Vodka
- Garnish: Lemon twist and/or mint (optional)
Once you have all of your ingredients ready to go, you start the drink by adding some ice, the tea, vodka, and lemon-based ingredient into a shaker. Lightly shake to mix. If you overshake, you'll generate too much froth.
Once the mixture is completely mixed, get a highball glass and add some ice. Pour over the content of the shaker, and add your desired garnish.
Enjoy responsibly!
